about

I started writing this album three years ago as a personal project to explore the place of classical music in the modern world. I wanted to stretch limits, make people think and serve as an antithesis to the modern notions of stale concert halls and class defined by taste. Somewhere along the way though, I realised that above all, I wanted to make something beautiful. As I worked through the long process of writing this album, I started to stumble more and more upon moments of joy and excitement. No matter how deep your cynicisms, music has a way of breaking through reason and rationality and grabbing you with emotion.
I soon realised this project would only work if I prioritised my own inspiration to write music over my inclination to analyse.

To start with thoughts of taking on the world and finish with something far more personal is a testament to the journeys music can take you on. I still remain a struggler with emotion, a sceptic of ‘the muse’ and a compulsive simplifier for matters of the soul, but through this process I've learned to relax and take joy from the abstract, complex beauty of music. And that's enough for me at the moment.
